CableFAX 2009 Program Awards: Best Show Online-Only/Mobile-Only
CO-WINNER: GREAT AND TELLING TALES WITH TIMOTHY DICKINSON: RASPUTIN, HISTORY
To know Timothy Dickinson is to understand why our judges loved his online series. Forever attired in a rumpled dark suit with a white blossom in his lapel, Dickinson is obsessed with history’s minutiae. This professional storyteller and walking encyclopedia (indeed we’ve often spotted him strolling DC streets) has a mind that should be stored in the National Archives — if it can fit. Fortunately History has harnessed the Internet’s vastness to house Dickinson’s equally vast collection of tales online, in clever cartoon form. And we’re the beneficiaries.
CO-WINNER: THE ADVENTURES OF MARK & HIS MONKEY, TRAVEL CHANNEL
You want cute or sexy? Online viewers don’t need to choose with Mark & His Monkey. You can’t deny the cuteness of the baby monkey or the sex appeal of adventurist Mark Anstice. As EW blogger Margaret Lyons wrote, "If you know something more adorable than a ruggedly handsome and capable British man waxing on about his precious monkey child/pet, well, I’d love to hear it." Thing is, Mark’s monkey might be an orphan because Mark ate its parents, an accepted practice in remote Peru, where Mark’s Travel series shot.
Honorable Mentions:
Crash the Parties ’08, Si TV: Showing how the Internet can educate and entertain, Si TV chose two young Latinos to attend the Democratic and Republican conventions and post reports about their experiences.
E! News Now, E!: Touting its enhanced news gathering operation, E! posts video news reports about celebrities and Hollywood buzz throughout the news cycle, which now is a 24/7 phenomenon.
