The FCC has mandated that starting July 1, 2007, the U.S. cable industry must be fully CableCard-ready, offering subscribers a special plug-in card for third-party devices (TV sets, set-top boxes, DVRs) enabling secure access to operators’ encrypted digital cable programming.
Communications Technology Associate Editor Mike Robuck hit the floor at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show to talk (and demo) CableCard-ready products with Dave Clark, director of product strategy and management at Scientific Atlanta, and Motorola Product Manager David Goodwin.
