The FCC has mandated that starting July 1, 2007, the U.S. cable industry must be fully CableCard-ready, offering subscribers a special plug-in card for third-party devices (TV sets, set-top boxes, DVRs) enabling secure access to operators’ encrypted digital cable programming.
