The top 5 MSOs had deployed more than 246K CableCARDs as of Sept 12, NCTA told the FCC Mon. When the next 5 largest operators are included, the number grows to 278K. As of July 1, cable ops had to stop deploying set-tops with integrated security and deploy only CableCARD-enabled boxes. Since the rule went into effect, the top 10 ops have already deployed more than 650K CableCARD-enabled boxes. Those stats tend to back cable’s argument that subs aren’t clamoring for CableCARDs. In less than 3 months, cable ops have deployed more than twice as many CableCARD-enabled devices than the total number of cards requested since one-way products were verified 3.5 years ago.
