As IT execs struggle to keep up with productivity changes related to wireless mobility in the workplace, they’re also wrestling with cloud-based IT services and apps. The most recent CommScope Global Enterprise Survey says enterprise mobility and cloud services beat infrastructure intelligence, 40 GbE/100 GbE and green initiatives as the top network challenges. The survey also noted a “noticeable gap” between in-premise mobile-device usage and the ability of the company to enable wireless traffic. “An average of 43 percent of all phone calls originating within an enterprise facility involves a mobile phone, yet only 30 percent of these businesses say their carrier-provided in-building signal coverage and capacity are sufficient to handle the mobile traffic,” the report says in part. Nearly a third of respondents indicated 40 GbE/100 GbE will have a “significant impact” on their future operations, with many pointing to the emergence of laser-optimized multimode. And nearly a third mentioned the need for intelligent infrastructure — the key driver being increasing demand for greater productivity.
