Citing profitability issues, Google confirms it will cut some 4,000 Motorola Mobility jobs, closing or consolidating about one-third of Motorola’s 90 locations. In addition, reports say Motorola will change focus from wireless handsets to “more profitable devices”…Russian pay-TV provider Kosmos TV is shutting its doors after 20 years, and its spectrum will go to wireless carriers Vimpelcom, MegaFon, Rostelecom and Scartel (Yota) for upcoming LTE services. Each of the recipients paid Kosmos TV $8.6 million for the frequencies. Kosmos TV, which served Moscow and nearby areas, had been offering subscribers two tiers of TV service via MMDS, using frequencies in the 2.5 GHz-2.7 GHz range.
