The Illinois Fiber Resource Group (iFiber) is deploying Ciena’s converged-packet-optical  and packet-networking platforms throughout its regional fiber-optic network in northwestern Illinois. The carrier says the platforms will provide public safety, city governments, hospitals, schools and libraries in previously underserved locations with advanced Ethernet services and a cost-effective means to transport high-speed data services as fast as 100G and beyond. The network was funded through a Broadband Technology Opportunity Program infrastructure grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

NCTA CEO Eyes Spring Policy Summit

Cory Gardner is the first NCTA President/CEO to take the helm of the association without the Cable Show (also referred to as INTX: The Internet & Television Expo or the National Show) as a platform for the industry’s agenda. NCTA shuttered the 65-year-old convention in 2016. While it’s not coming back, Gardner does think there’s room for some industry show-and-tell.
