At CES, Broadcom announced a range of mobile and home networking products and services to expand the delivery of HD content, enable better smart appliances and expand the 5G WiFi capabilities. Specifically, the new Broadcom Wiced SDK supports HD audio streaming over WiFi. It’s expected to make it faster and easier for vendors to add Apple’s AirPlay wireless streaming support to audio devices.
In addition, the enhanced 5G WiFi video streaming for the home aims to amplify the quality of HD video streaming in routers, gateways, set-tops, digital TVs and gaming platforms. The company also has enhanced its High Efficiency Video Coding portfolio with a satellite set-top box system-on-chip. The new digital video broadcasting chips are expected to enable service providers to offer more HD channels on the existing infrastructure to a broader subscriber base.
“The breakthroughs we demonstrate at CES are driving disruptive innovation in the consumer electronics market today and many years into the future," said Scott McGregor, Broadcom’s President and CEO said in a statement. “Broadcom’s advanced communications technologies continue to inspire companies large and small in the creation and development of ground-breaking consumer electronic products.”
