Expo Call for Papers The Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers is seeking proposals for technical workshops to be offered during Cable-Tec Expo 2005, June 14-17 in San Antonio. Technical paper proposals must be submitted to SCTE by Jan. 21. While all proposals will be considered, proposals addressing the specific topics below will be given priority: Details for the above topics are outlined in the call for papers, which is located in the Event Calendar section of www.scte.org. Interested participants should submit one-to-two-page proposals (no more than 600 words) in abstract form and include topic heading, paper title, name of author/presenter, company, mailing address, telephone/fax numbers and email address. Previously published papers and product-specific presentations will not be accepted. Proposals are to be sent by email to [email protected]. Allen is scheduled to deliver the opening keynote address at SCTE’s Conference on Emerging Technologies (ET) 2005, to be held Jan. 11-13 in Huntington Beach, Calif. Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1976, remained the company’s chief technologist until 1983 and is the founder and chairman of Vulcan and chairman of Charter Communications. Named one of the top 10 philanthropists in America, Allen gives back to the community through the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation. Allen is also the sole funder of SpaceShipOne, the first privately funded effort to successfully put a civilian in suborbital space and winner of the Ansari X-Prize competition. Nelma FitzGerald Bob Gold & Associates has named former Infonet Services Corp. marketing executive Nelma FitzGerald vice president of Marketing Services. FitzGerald is charged with developing and interfacing with new accounts for the agency’s expanding clientele. FitzGerald joined Infonet Services Corp. in 1998 as director of Marketing for E-Business and in 2000 was promoted to director of Marketing for Management Services. More recently, Walt Disney Co. sought FitzGerald’s marketing expertise in the wireless space, creating a strategy to launch a new consumer electronics venture, including the overall positioning and detailed strategies for product, pricing, distribution and communications. FitzGerald also has worked for MediaOne Connect, Sprint PCS and AT&T Wireless. David Eng Tandberg Television has appointed David Eng director of Cable Business Development, where he is responsible for expanding the company’s exposure throughout the cable industry in the Americas. Eng most recently served as corporate vice president, Americas Business, for C-COR. Eng also spent 10 years with Scientific-Atlanta. Eng will utilize his extensive industry contacts and resources to drive business exposure and expand TANDBERG Television’s reach into the American cable industry.
