BendBroadband is the latest cable op to ask for a waiver to the FCC’s set-top integration ban. It wants to keep putting into service low-cost, limited-function Motorola DCT-700 digital boxes after July 1, ’07. FCC rules require all boxes deployed after that date to have CableCARDs. In the 12 months since BendBroadband started leasing the DCT-700 for $1.95/month, it says digital penetration is up 33%. Comcast and Charter have requested similar waivers.
