ARRIS Announces Additions to the ConvergeMedia Platform

ARRIS has announced the addition of two new solutions to the ConvergeMedia XMS Distribution Platform:

• The XMS 2K Flash, a scalable content delivery device utilizing Flash solid-state storage technology.  The XMS 2K Flash offers high performance, low power consumption and solid-state reliability, particularly suited for the Content Distribution Network (CDN) edge.
• The XMS Mini, designed to provide cost effective video on demand (VOD) and advertising insertion capabilities for hospitality and small service provider deployments, like VOD in a Box.

XMS Mini and XMS 2K Flash complement ARRIS’ existing XMS 2K as part of the XMS product line’s Adaptive Media technology. All XMS products run ARRIS Streaming Media Engine (SME) software.

In other news, ARRIS announced it is demonstrating its IP Video Architecture at the  Cable Show Los Angeles.

The ARRIS IP Video Architecture relies upon the natural efficiencies of Internet Protocol to carry as much voice, video and data traffic as possible in the inherently flexible IP domain while preserving operators’ existing MPEG investments and infrastructure.

The ARRIS end-to-end IP Video Architecture vision is a flexible, open architecture that can be easily modified to accommodate future demands on a cable operators’ service delivery network. It is intended to scale cost effectively from initial small trials to network-wide regional or national deployments. This is accomplished by re-using a substantial portion of existing headend equipment including existing CMTS infrastructure, which will eventually transition to the Converged Multiservice Access Platform (CMAP) architecture.
