The triple-play is so yesterday. It’s time for the quadruple-play-or the "four-play," as Paul Allen joked at yesterday at SCTE’s Emerging Tech Conference in Huntington Beach, CA. "We have to internalize that things are going to be happening faster than we’ve seen in the past. We have to match the excitement of consumers," the chair of Vulcan and Charter said. Allen’s vision of cable’s video/voice/data/wireless bundle included everything from wide-scale rollouts of what he heard one consumer calling a "peever" (PVR) to wireless phones with the ability to receive digital TV. He called for cable ops to partner with CE and wireless companies to take best advantage of its HFC quad-play potentials. – Laura Hamilton, Communications Technology
