Why Them? GMC got a makeover in 2011, including original series, acquisitions and an expanded slate of its top programming. The network more than doubled its presentation of GMC World Premiere Movies and expanded its Saturday Night Gospel Playhouse series. New series “Heartland” quickly became the network’s top-performing series on the heels of new grass-roots music series “America Sings,” hosted by Drew Lachey. The duo also oversaw an innovative upfront surrounding its pro-social network initiative, “Uplift Someone,” with more than 400 ad execs attending checking out its wrapped, themed bus and karaoke sessions.

My best technique for deterring time-wasting office visits from co-workers: I used to have a little box next to my desk at Turner called the Amtell. I had inherited it from Scott Sassa. It had a button that went to my assistant labeled GMO. It meant, “Get Me Out of this meeting.”

My favorite coffee order at Starbucks: Medium, dark roast with two ice cubes. I say medium instead of grande, just to piss them off.

Bands I would actually go see live: I will see almost any live music at the drop of a hat. The acts I look forward to seeing again are Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Kirk Franklin and Phish.

Favorite sports team: Atlanta Falcons

When it comes to retransmission consent, cable operators should… Protect the tiny handful of independent networks that subscribers love but that don’t have broadcast network leverage.
