Bill Bridgen
Title: GM/EVP, Comcast SportsNet New England & NECN (New England Cable News)
Number of Years in Cable: 17
Education: BA, Gettysburg College; JD, Temple University School of Law
Best Advice in 7 Words or Less: Strive to be happy.
Why Him? SportsNet and NECN are treating viewers to much more original programming these days, giving 4 million homes a whopping 22 hours a day of sports, with up to 14 hours of live television on a daily basis. That’s largely because Bridgen thinks on his feet. When the NHL lockout ended, increased interest in hockey prompted him to hire NHL legend Mike Milbury as co-host for “Cross Check with Felger & Milbury.” And he’s all about program diversity: In addition to sports, food and weather programs also live on the net. And Bridgen has managed all of this new content while continuing to preserve NECN’s credible and independent news voice.
Dish I can make and that would impress a celebrity chef: Braised Short Ribs & Penne… a Giada de Laurentiis recipe (let the Food Network folks know I am ready to try and impress Giada).
The best piece of business advice I’ve gotten this year: Employee attitude and morale can make or break a company.
If I could tell my 21-year-old self something today, it would be… two things business-related: (1) Learn from your mistakes but don’t dwell on them; and (2) find Steve Jobs and invest every nickel you can.
Favorite vacation spot? East Africa. My wife and I went to Mnemba, Kenya and Tanzania for our honeymoon—be sure to add the Serengeti and the Masai Mara to your travel bucket list as it is truly incredible.
Beatles or The Rolling Stones? The Beatles. The Fab Four individually and collectively were much more talented than the Stones (OK… excluding Ringo).
