A quartet of small cable operators kept their individual voices low and quietly joined CTAM’s OnlyCableCan initiative, enlarging a group designed to establish a louder common voice for cable. BendBroadband, Bresnan, Buckeye and Cebridge began their membership during the summer as each became a participant in CableLabs’ GotoBroadband service locator, which funnels consumers to OnlyCableCan’s Web site and toll-free number, CTAM chief Char Beales confirmed. The 4 joined the 10 largest MSOs as members of the initiative, which is positioning cable as a high-tech industry with consumers through a humorous ad campaign (Cfax 08/25); in addition they can participate in future retail promotions that drive traffic to MSOs. The group joined Samsung in March and Panasonic in June for retail events promoting HD; more are planned, Beales says.
