Why Him? A seasoned negotiator, Goodwyn has spearheaded record-breaking distribution growth for every one of Discovery’s domestic channels during his quarter century with the company. On top of huge strides for the flagship network, TLC and Animal Planet, Goodwyn last year helped Investigation Discovery become the fastest-growing network in the U.S. for the third consecutive year, now in 80 million homes. He also fostered emerging network platforms for OWN, Military Channel, Destination America, Hub Network and Science Channel, the latter two of which were among the fastest-growing networks in the industry in 2012. As if that’s not enough, Goodwyn’s Education division has a full course load in the coming year. After launching the Discovery Education Techbook—the first fully digital textbook approved for K-12 Classrooms—he jumped right into key expansions in both high school and middle school curricula, and the launch of Discovery Education Higher Ed to community colleges across the country. The service is currently launching with 23 courses across eight disciplines for this academic year. We think Goodwyn already earned an A.
The one thing I’d do differently if I could go back to high school: Make the basketball team and get a date for the prom.
