The Skinny

The current situation surrounding RSNs doesn’t have a clear path forward, but Charter is taking matters into its own hands. The operator is rolling out an RSN-free sports package in 3Q23, putting more pressure on folks like Diamond Sports Group to recalibrate the current RSN model. Another distributor, DirecTV, renewed its carriage deal with Spectrum SportsNet and SportsNet LA with a lower penetration threshold to give non-sports fans more flexible options. Speaking of DirecTV, the Nexstar blackout continues to roll on after the MVPD lost more than 200 stations across the U.S.
