It’s time to move forward for Standard General and TEGNA. Their proposed merger collapsed after Standard General’s May 22 financing deadline passed, and some are pondering what that means for the future. TEGNA leadership said it didn’t have much communication with the FCC throughout the process—a sentiment Standard General has felt as well—and it yearned for more clarity from the Commission. For Nexstar, it’s worried about the precedent set for M&A after the FCC sent the merger to the ALJ.
