The Skinny

Disney and DirecTV made up over the weekend, striking a new carriage deal in principle that gives the distributor the flexibility to offer genre-based packages to its customers. While DirecTV was clear it didn't want a clone of Disney's arrangement with Charter, there are similarities, particularly in the provisions around how Disney streaming services will be offered in different packages. But as one negotiation cleared up, media reports appeared that DISH and DirecTV ownership were in talks once again about a potential merger of the two satellite providers. Some believe this might be the time a deal gets done.
