The Skinny

Fiber Connect 2023 is officially underway in Orlando, and much of Monday’s discussions were centered on the viability of fiber. Some companies like Cox are all in on using fiber as part of their expansion plans, but there are still cases where FTTH is a less-than-ideal solution. As operators strategize how to maximize their advantages, the Coalition of RDOF Winners is pleading with the FCC to convince the agency to allow RDOF auction winners to give up all or part of their winnings without penalties. That’s because the cost of construction has increased exponentially since the auction, and the first ask came in an emergency petition requesting the FCC grant additional funding or a potential amnesty period.
