As we draw closer to SCTE-ISBE's Cable-Tec Expo in New Orleans, Cablefax will highlight important tech stories in this eletter, making sure you're in the know when you hit the exhibit floor.

What many envisioned to be coming in the far future is becoming available now thanks to the growing number of Smart Cities initiatives. Whether it's implementing technology to improve the flow of traffic or installing sensors and cameras to detect issues with local utilities, the goal of every Smart Cities project is to improve the lives of that area's citizens. This isn't new information to cable's biggest players. Cox, via connected asset services business line Cox2M, deployed wireless sensors to track more than 500K vehicles across auction lots nationwide. In March, Charter's Spectrum teamed up with non-profit US Ignite to transform St. Petersburg, FL into a Smart Gigabit Community. And Comcast has begun transforming MDUs by installing smart home devices in Chicago apartments.

Expo will have its own IOT/Smart Cities Experience for attendees to enjoy. Open October 1-3, the destination will feature demonstrations and discussion of Smart City applications such as smart utility metering, smart parking, fleet management and eGovernance.
