As we draw closer to SCTE-ISBE's Cable-Tec Expo in New Orleans, Cablefax will highlight important tech stories in this eletter, making sure you're in the know when you hit the exhibit floor.

After a six-year journey, the commercial launch of CBRS is finally here. Now, companies approved by the FCC's Wireless Telecommunications Bureau and the Office of Engineering and Technology will be able to access spectrum in the 3.5GHz band that has gone unused by its incumbents. Users of the band promise lower latency and faster speeds to their wireless customers, and others are using it to not only improve the network experience in certain areas, but to bring an all-new LTE offering to rural communities. And no discussion about CBRS is complete without a mention of how it can contribute to the widespread launch of 5G networks.

But how does CBRS fit into the 10G picture? Expo attendees will have that question answered at the "Let's Be Friends: How Cable 10G and Wireless 5G/CBRS Work Better Together" session on Oct 1. Kicking off at 2:15pm, the panel will cover how the two are much stronger together, promising symmetric multi-Gigabit services, the importance of DOCSIS mobile backhaul of LTE and 5G and the challenges that come with mobile backhaul.
