Koh’s passions include mentorship and creating an inclusive business environment. She co-founded the Unity Subcommittee (part of the Legal Diversity Committee) and spearheaded two of its biggest programs, “Get to Know,” a bi-annual round table discussion with NBCU execs to candidly share their diverse experiences, and “Let’s Start Here,” a new-hire initiative to introduce the legal function and larger NBCU community.
What movie or show is must-watch for celebrating diversity? “American Fiction.” Cord Jefferson tells a brilliant story of grappling with one’s identity juxtaposed against the cultural identity others impose on you. It’s a reminder that, though people with a common diverse background may have many shared experiences, everyone faces their own struggles and enjoys their own successes.
Advice I would give a recent graduate: Grit is the greatest driver of success, more than pedigree, connections and following a “right path.” Grit is not only about doing the work but showing resilience when faced with challenges and taking a proactive approach to your aspirations. Your goals may change over the course of your life, but the mental fortitude attained through sustained effort over long term is the key to progress.
What does work-life balance mean to you? Like most people, ensuring that I have quality time to dedicate to my home life and family is of paramount importance. This requires cultivating the trust of my colleagues in my reliability during times of need and a workplace environment that respects that balance as long as the team shows up.
