After a remarkable 18-year run, ESPN’s flagship talk radio duo Mike & Mike called it a day, and sent their show off with a stunning fan loyalty initiative whose scope seemed unmatched in the history of talk radio. The show picked 1,500 top fans from Twitter using a comprehensive selection criteria, and then handed out rewards for their loyalty to the show. This included on-air mentions, personal thank-you video messages, Twitter mentions, and show memorabilia delivered via mail. The results spoke for themselves: on the day of the final show, they garnered 19,400 total @MikeandMike tweets from 6-10am, 158 million impressions and a #MMSayThanks tweet every 2.7 seconds.
