The world of advanced advertising is huge and ever-changing, but Wu confidently and gracefully navigates it. She crafts the road maps that have led to the development of technologies that enable MVPDs to take part in the programmatic revolution. She’s also managed partnerships with the likes of Seachange that have brought addressable advertising to life on linear platforms. Wu highly recommends the Harvard Business Review’s Women at Work podcast for anyone looking for inspiration or action items from top-notch researchers. “I’ve gained a lot of very practical advice from this podcast; everything from negotiating salaries, to managing burnout, to navigating career pivot points,” she says.

What question(s) should you ask to ensure you’re achieving pay equity?
Information is power. The more data and benchmarks you have, the better you are able to advocate for yourself. Build a network of peers across the industry, especially men, who are in comparable roles and ask about their pay. It’s often surprising how willing people are to share this type of information in an effort to be an ally and to stamp out pay inequality. Within your company, ask your manager or human resources department for transparency into the company’s pay bands and where you fall within salary ranges given your tenure and performance in your role. It is also vital to remember that pay equity extends well-beyond salary. Be sure to consider and ask about other forms of compensation including bonuses and equity. Often some of the largest gender gaps in pay are due to inequities in these other forms of compensation.

What one female empowerment book do you think every woman should read?
While there are so many great books on this subject, I would actually suggest a podcast: Harvard Business Review’s “Women at Work.” It’s a well-curated, topical podcast covering a wide range of subjects for working women. The podcast provides a good balance of theory and actionable guidance from some very well regarded researchers and practitioners. I’ve gained a lot of very practical advice from this podcast; everything from negotiating salaries, to managing burnout, to navigating career pivot points.
