Janet Han Vissering

Vissering is building on National Geographic’s iconic brand with natural history and animal-focused programming—like this year’s Emmy-nominated (and women-led) series, “Queens,” and the Disney+ original series, “A Real Bug’s Life”—by nurturing a new generation of natural history storytellers through the Nat Geo Field Ready Program. The current cohort includes nine mentees from five countries, including the United States.

What movie or show is must-watch for celebrating diversity? I really love “Grey’s Anatomy.” When it first came to air, it was really refreshing to see such a diverse cast playing amazing roles. It wasn’t the classic “doctor” profile. It had great representation.

Advice I would give a recent graduate: Do not fixate on one specific job. Make sure you broaden the scope of job-related tasks that you would want to explore. It’s a tough market right now and it’s important that you are flexible and open to trying new things, like taking on new projects within the job.

Who would play you in a movie about your life? I would love for Ali Wong to play me. She’s a great personality, can play so many characters, outspoken and so talented. She can also go from comedy to dark.
