Bernstein continuously elevates the National Geographic brand and pushes storytelling into new realms. She’s also a champion for women’s stories, helping get Sara Dosa’s Oscar-nominated “Fire of Love” off the ground and pursuing the story of Miep Gies, the woman who helped hide Otto Frank and his family from the Nazis during WWII for the Nat Geo scripted series “A Small Light.”

What inspired you to pursue a leadership role? I was inspired to pursue a leadership role early in my career because I saw that the people in leadership roles were the key decision-makers and I wanted a seat at that table. I’m very grateful that there were female senior executives in the tv business when I was coming up – Susanne Daniels, Dana Walden, Nina Tassler, to name a few – so I had plenty of role models and real-life examples of women in powerful, decision-making roles to inspire me and give me the confidence to pursue my ambitions.
