Huawei, Evolution Granted FCC Waivers for DTAs
The Federal Communications Commission has granted waivers to Evolution Broadband and Huawei Technologies for some of their digital transport adapters (DTAs).
In July 2007, the FCC banned the sale of new set-top boxes with integrated security and mandated separable security. However, Evolution was able to obtain a waiver from the FCC for two of its low-cost, limited-capability DTAs. That waiver, which Evolution received in July 2009, is now referred to as the Evolution Order. (For more, click here).
In last week's order, the FCC granted waivers for the following devices:
- Evolution DMS-2002-CA
- Evolution DMS-1004-CA
- Evolution DMS-2002-U
- Huawei DC-730
- Huawei DC-732
In its order, the FCC said, "the Subject Boxes do not have the hardware necessary to support return-path communications, high-definition output, hard drive expansion for DVR service, cable modem support, or multiple tuners."
Evolution has a waiver request on file with the FCC for its low-cost HD set-top box, but so far the FCC has not responded to that request.
