NDS (now part of Cisco) and Nordic DTH pay-TV provider Canal Digital are collaborating to launch a next-gen, TV Everywhere platform as a hosted, managed service, enabled by both satellite and OTT delivery. The NDS Snowflake framework will provide the basis for the UI to be implemented across all devices as part of the Canal Digital service, and a hosted NDS Unified Headend will reside outside of the Canal Digital network. The subscriber’s home will be connected through a multimedia gateway that distributes content and metadata-based services around the home over IP to complement satellite delivered programming…The U.S. Navy to deploy a nationwide 9-1-1 Routing and Management Service (9-1-1 RMS) from AT&T. The operator will work with the U.S. Navy's emergency communications department to deploy the network to meet key emergency communication requirements, which are based on the National Emergency Number Association i3 standard for next gen 9-1-1 networks. The highly secure service will route emergency calls from naval facilities in the continental U.S to one of six Regional Dispatch Centers. If one of the six Regional Dispatch Centers is damaged in a disaster and can’t receive calls, the system automatically re-routes those calls to another location for processing…The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) inked an Honorary and Friendship Agreement “to exchange information and promote harmonious standards development in intelligent building systems, energy efficiency and sustainability initiatives, among others,” they explain. TIA and IES say they will work toward continuing industry efforts to improve the energy-efficiency of lighting systems, control systems and the communications network that connects them.
