Satellite provider Intelsat General Corp. says it was able to simultaneously send secure video and high-speed broadband signals to and from an unnamed carrier’s plane in flight, automatically switching beams across three satellites over four continents and showing data rates of 6 Mbps to and 1 Mbps from the moving aircraft. The flight path crossed three continents served by four different satellites. Engineers measured the throughputs, and conducted video and data transmissions between multiple computers on the plane and multiple computers located at a customer’s various ground locations…Broadcom has a new suite of remote monitoring and diagnostic capabilities based on its Full-Band Capture digital tuning technology. By capturing the entire 1 GHz cable spectrum, the company says its remote diagnostics provide access to real-time data and visibility into a user's home coax network for problem diagnosis and better overall customer service.  The suite integrates with the TR-69 protocol, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) or other Web server-based protocols…Just in time for the Olympics, MetroPCS is selling what it says is the first phone that can receive local TV signals: the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G. The pricey phone ($459) has a built-in, extendable antenna that can receive special TV signals broadcast from regular TV towers for reception by cellphones and other small gadgets. The carrier adds it’s the “only major U.S. cellphone company to support Mobile DTV” after Verizon and AT&T shut down their offerings last year.
