Global Connections 12/13/12
Verizon released the final numbers on its U.S. and European 100G network expansion this past year, adding 13,000 miles here at home and 1,616 miles across the pond. The carrier deployed 100G on selected U.S. routes where traffic demand is highest, including Atlanta to Tampa, Kansas City to Dallas and Salt Lake City to Seattle, using the same routers and coherent optical transport equipment as on the company’s first 100G routes installed in 2011. In Europe, Verizon expanded its 100G network with two new routes — between London and Paris, and between London and Frankfurt. These routes along with the previously deployed Frankfurt-to-Paris 100G route create a 100G ring on Verizon’s production network. Cloud services, video and wireless traffic continue to drive the need for more capacity on the company’s network…Vodafone Ireland is using Tellabs Insight Analytics Services to analyze the network data contained in its multivendor 3G mobile network, using the information to optimize network performance and to provide higher QoS.
