Survey Sez 11/06/12
The expansion of high-speed broadband deployment and growth in smartphone uptake in Germany offers operators an opportunity to consider expanding their service portfolio to IT solutions. Currently, three mobile operators offer commercial LTE services, focusing their investment on expanding the coverage across the country, says Pyramid Research Analyst, Olena Kaplan. As of now, they don’t plan to add a prepaid option for LTE, and this is expected to inhibit LTE growth in the short term. However, Pyramid expects LTE adoption to accelerate next year to reach 3 percent of all SIMs (3.6 million), rising further to 19 percent (26.5 million) by 2017…The Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) published a report on the Wi-Fi hot-spot market compiled by global research company Informa Telecoms & Media. The survey revealed hotspot connections now are led by smartphones (40 percent), followed closely by laptops (39 percent) and then tablets (17 percent). The survey also highlighted the rapid deployment of NGH, based on Passpoint certified equipment, with 19 percent of operator respondents planning to deploy by the end of 2013.
