Comcast’s Internet Essentials program inked new partnerships with the U.S. Department of Labor and Connect2Compete. The Labor Department will provide information about Internet Essentials at American Job Centers across Comcast’s 39-state footprint, and Connect2Compete will offer Internet Essentials customers an opportunity to buy a low-cost desktop or laptop through its partner Redemtech as an alternative to the low-cost netbook currently available directly through Comcast’s hardware partners…Houston-based Smart-TV solutions developer NetRange is teaming with Danish cloud-streamer Octoshape to turn broadcast TV into broadband TV. The Octoshape Infinite HD-M multicast technology will be integrated into NetRange SmartTV portals to provide TV quality, TV scale and TV economics over unmanaged IP networks. This “Triple OTT” concept will allow consumers to watch linear TV via the DVB-Platform, adding the ability to view unlimited amount of linear channels in broadcast quality via the public Internet, including access to SmartTV applications and services…Ubee-AirWalk is using VxWorks from Wind River in its latest enterprise-grade CDMA femtocell. Branded as the Sprint AIRAVE Pro Connect, it currently is part of Sprint’s in-building solutions product portfolio…Telecom/broadband service provider Ritter Communications, serving businesses and residential customers in northeast and north central Arkansas, plans to acquire Tenn.-based Millington Telephone Company Inc. and Millington CATV Inc. The purchase could close by year’s end…ConceptWave Software Inc., a provider of customer/product/order lifecycle management solutions for operators, now is part of Ericsson, which commented, “Our technical team can now scale to utilize a diverse set of resources to further expand and integrate ConceptWave platform capabilities with other OSS/BSS applications.
