Survey Sez 07/19/12
Wireless infrastructure equipment revenues hit a 8.5-year low in 1Q12 (only $11.4 billion), and the second quarter isn't looking much better, notes ABI Research. Ericsson’s 2Q results reported a 9-percent increase from the first quarter; and preliminary results this week from Alcatel-Lucent and ZTE also predict slight increases in revenues, but they fall short of expectations. The group expects wireless infrastructure spending to be weak for at least two more quarters…On the cable side, things don’t look as bad. Infonetics Research says the growth it’s seeing in wideband (DOCSIS 3.0) CPE revenue shows infrastructure investments made by operators in DOCSIS 3.0 equipment during the past few years are paying off in new subscribers and upgrades to existing subscribers’ services. In North America, FTTH CPE continues to grow, with 1.25G EPON optical network terminal (ONT) and 2.5G GPON ONT residential gateway revenue up by double digits in 1Q12.
