Research & Analytics...
Why Router Sales Could Bounce Back This Year
In 2012, core router sales slowed more than sales of edge routers, as “the coming move to 100G made carriers increasingly cautious as they choose the next generation of higher-capacity core routers,” says Infonetics Research. The global carrier router and switch market ended last year with a small 4-percent loss, but that is expected to change this year, with Principal Analyst Michael Howard believing the U.S. economy is in better shape and predicting an increase in worldwide carrier capex in 2013. The top four manufacturers in the router and carrier Ethernet switch segment continued to lead the pack: Cisco (1), Huawei (2), Alcatel-Lucent (3) and Juniper (4). In the race for router-only market share, Cisco maintained the top position in 2012, with Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent nipping at its heels.
