– Wholesale Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) Silver service is the newest offering from Frontier Communications. EVPL Silver offers point-to-point digital connectivity with standard Ethernet interfaces of 10/100/1000 Mbps and scalable throughput of 1 Mbps through a full gigabit. The service is available in Alabama, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Future EVPL releases will include multipoint-to-multipoint capabilities, Class of Service, Internet access, regional interconnects, network-performance reporting and SLAs.
 
– Mobile capacity monitor and resource manager Vasona Networks Inc. unveiled its SmartAIR1000 edge application controller that tackles wireless bandwidth congestion. It reportedly can determine each cell's current capacity along with characteristics of each of its concurrent sessions, whether streaming audio and video, Web browsing or file downloads. The platform then can help ensure all available bandwidth is allocated according to the nature of each application and media type. The SmartAIR1000 is compatible with 3G and 4G networks, including cdma2000, UMTS/HSPA and LTE.
 
– Comcast is ramping its Business Class services in the Chicago area to “give more businesses access to high-speed data, cloud-based hosted voice and other new services, and drive economic growth here,” it says. The MSO opened its Executive Briefing Center in Naperville, Ill., to demonstrate its suite of Business Class products and services. The facility has some 230 employees, and that number could expand to more than 600 by year’s end. The operator also enhanced its fiber network in three key Chicago business hubs: the Loop – including the Willis Tower and other iconic buildings; the I-90 corridor from Rosemont/O'Hare International Airport to Schaumburg; and the I-88 corridor in Chicago's western suburbs, from Oak Brook to Aurora.
