The National Academy of Engineering: Martin Cooper, Motorola legend and the father of cellular telephony, was awarded the academy’s highest honor – the Charles Stark Draper Prize – at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. In 1973, Cooper was general manager of Motorola's Communications Systems Division and leader of a team of engineers that had been working on mobile-communication technologies. Standing on Sixth Avenue in New York City, Cooper famously placed the groundbreaking first call using a Motorola DynaTAC “brick.” And the rest is history.
Visionary Solutions Inc.: Joe Walsh joins the IPTV supplier as vice president/Sales, tasked with developing a solution-based sales strategy that addresses the company’s diverse vertical markets, including enterprise, education, government, churches, entertainment, healthcare and broadcast. Walsh had been vice president/Sales and Marketing at Fast Forward Video.
Amino Communications: Joe Coles has been added as senior vice president/Product Management and Marketing at the IPTV/OTT developer, responsible for developing and driving the company’s Aminet and Live set-top boxes. Prior to joining Amino, Coles ran his own consultancy, specializing in strategic portfolio management. He also served stints at Nokia and Plantronics.
University of Colorado Boulder: Former CableLabs CTO/Chief Strategy Officer David Reed now is a scholar in residence at the university’s Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program. In addition to teaching and conducting research with graduate students in ITP’s master's and Ph.D. programs, Reed will lead the development of a new research center to investigate the future of the broadband industry via strategic research that offers technology leaders, strategic planners and policymakers answers to complex, interdisciplinary problems.
