Deals Of The Day...
Wave Closes Black Rock Buyout
WaveDivision Holdings, a business-class fiber-optic/broadband services company serving business and residential customers in Washington, Oregon and California, wrapped its $50 million acquisition of Black Rock Cable, which offers commercial high-capacity fiber-optic connectivity services in northwest Washington State. Besides strengthening Wave’s enterprise efforts, the purchase extends its dark-fiber network from the Canadian border to San Francisco. Black Rock’s 21 employees will join Wave, and service will continue under the Black Rock brand.
TWC Enhances Search/Recommendation Functions
Digitalsmiths, a provider of personalized video-discovery technology, says Time Warner Cable will integrate its Seamless Discovery product into the search-and-recommendations functionality that connects TWC subs to TV shows and movies available on live TV, on-demand and on their DVRs. The partnership also provides for cross-selling and upselling opportunities on featured content.
DLNA Guidelines Hit The Street
Comcast, Cox, DIRECTV and Time Warner Cable have deployed new subscriber products using DLNA premium content guidelines, a set of standards announced a year ago and developed in conjunction with the service provider community to create greater consumer content choices on CE devices. Devices supporting the DLNA premium content guidelines can access premium services using XG1 set-top boxes with the AnyRoom DVR service Comcast has begun deploying, Cox Advanced TV Plus video service allows DLNA premium content devices to access Cox Whole Home DVR content, the DLNA premium content guidelines used by the DIRECTV Genie allow full HD DVR functionality without needing receivers in every room, and millions of set-top boxes deployed by TWC are delivering content to DLNA premium content products via its Signature Home Service. DLNA now is working on enhancements that include enabling consistent presentation of user interfaces across devices.
