Comings & Goings

Nicol Turner-Lee

A new head of NAMIC was announced this week, with CableFAX Daily breaking the news that Nicol Turner-Lee was named the association’s President and CEO, effective April 2. The search for a new leader of NAMIC had been on since October, when NAMIC pres Kathy Johnson stepped down at the end of the organization’s annual conference. Turner-Lee is no stranger to the industry, particularly broadband. She is currently Vice President and Director of the Media and Technology Institute at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a policy institute focusing on issues pertaining to African Americans and people of color. There she pioneered the “National Minority Broadband Adoption” study, cited by numerous government and community groups—including the FCC’s National Broadband Plan. Turner-Lee has also served as Senior Vice President for External Affairs at One Economy Corporation. Her industry accolades abound. She was appointed to the Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity in the Digital Age by the FCC Chairman and was recognized by the National Coalition of 100 Black Women-Northern Virginia as a leader in promoting national broadband. Tuner-Lee blogs regularly, too. Check a recent post on African-American pastors here.

  Jeff Browning

Univision upped Jeff Browning to Senior Vice President of Network Sales, reporting to Laura Molen, EVP, Network Sales. Browning will continue to oversee news sales and strategy, a position he took in August, with the added responsibility of developing ad and marketing solutions for Univision, TeleFutura and Galavisión networks. Prior to joining Univision in 2008, Browning was at CBC Television Station Group and Spike TV. He celebrated the promotion with his family. His wife Rebecca and his 3-year-old son Jacob prepared homemade lemon and yogurt cupcakes for the occasion.

   Ed Huguez

Starz promoted Ed Huguez to President of Affiliate Distribution for Staz Entertainment, a newly created position. He moves to the post from EVP, Affiliate Sales and Marketing, which he’s occupied since joining the net in 2004. Huguez oversees sales and revenue generation for Starz’s distributors, and that includes multichannel video and digital providers. In the past her served at President, CEO and Chairman of Midstream Technologies Inc., which provided interactive and VOD technology to cable companies. He also held new media and affiliate sales posts at DirecTV and ESPN. Some fun facts? Ed loves to cook. A few of his favorite dishes are chicken parmesan, steaks and most Mexican dishes. The last book he read was “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History” by U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle.

Yvette Kanouff

Cablevision tapped Yvette Kanouff as EVP, Engineering, Software Design. Ms. Kanouff also happens to be the 2011 Top Techie in CableFAX The Magazine’s Most Powerful Women in Cable issue—and for good reason. Kanouff most recently served as President of SeaChange International, Inc. and also held the post of Director of Interactive Technologies for Time Warner Cable. In her new role she’ll head up Cablevision’s strategic technology efforts and help develop—and bring to market—new consumer technologies. She’ll report to Wilt Hildenbrand, Senior Advisor, Engineering and Technology, and James A. Blackley, EVP, Corporate Engineering and Technology. Kanouff is an executive member of WICT and a senior member of the SCTE. She also won an Emmy for SeaChange's work on VOD.

Michele Moore

Michele Moore was named Lifetime’s Senior Vice President, Publicity. She’ll serve on President and GM Nancy Dubuc’s senior team and head up strategic communications and publicity for Lifetime, LMN and Lifetime Real Women. She’ll be based in LA and will work alongside Les Eisner, Vice President, Corporate Communications and Publicity. Most recently Moore was head of marketing at Temple University, a school with 40,000 students and 9 campuses worldwide. She also worked as a senior consultant for the crisis communications firm Walker Marchant Group and was instrumental in rebranding and modernizing the National Urban League, where she was Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications. But she’s no stranger to cable. Nickelodeon, BET and Cox Communications are on her resume, and she began her career in cable TV as a Walter Kaitz Foundation Fellow. Little known fact about Michele: one of her favorite hobbies is playing golf. And she’s darn good at it. She won her first gold tournament at 12 years old. “And I’ve been hooked ever since!”
