Ellis Named 2010 Women in Technology Award Winner

Leslie Ellis, an independent technology consultant and analyst, is this year’s recipient of the prestigious 2010 “Women in Technology Award,” sponsored by Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT), the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and Communications Technology magazine.

The annual award, sponsored by Bright House Networks, was created in 1995 to acknowledge “the achievements of one woman who has demonstrated outstanding personal and professional growth, and who has significantly contributed to the cable telecommunications industry.”

Ellis owns the Denver-based Translation-Please.com and Ellis Edits Inc. Ellis wrote the A-to-Z dictionary “Definitive Broadband: Next Generation” in 2005 as a follow-on to “Definitive Broadband,” published in 2001. She also co-authored “The Field Guide to Broadband” in 2002. Additionally, Ellis was a contributing author to the 2003 publication “Planet Broadband,” which described a vision of the future as foretold by cable modem inventor Rouzbeh Yassini.

“WICT is thrilled to recognize Leslie. This award gives us an opportunity to show the critical and growing role that women play in the technical side of the cable industry, and Leslie is a fantastic honoree,” said Maria E. Brennan, CAE, president & CEO of WICT.

Barbara Jaffe, executive vice president/Technology Operations at HBO and the 2009 WIT winner, will present Ellis with her award during Cable Connection Fall the SCTE Cable-Tec Expo, set for Oct. 19-22 in New Orleans. Ellis also will be featured in an upcoming story in Communications Technology magazine.

Commented Mark Dzuban, president and CEO of SCTE, “There’s no more fitting place to honor Leslie than at SCTE’s Cable-Tec Expo. Like her predecessors on the list of Women in Technology award winners, she has devoted her career to helping the industry to embrace the technological innovation that is reshaping the industry and directly impacting the bottom lines of operators and programmers.”

In addition to HBO’s Jaffe, past recipients of the WIT award include Cyndee Everman, Carolyn Terry, Vicki Marts, Charlotte Field, Nomi Bergman, Marcie Anderson, Christy Martin, Sabrina Calhoun, Margaret Gaillard, Sally Kinsman, Sheri Sharp, Yvette Gordon-Kanouff, Pam Nobles and Pam Arment.
