About the Webinar

The explosion of consumer choices for video content across platforms has altered the traditional ecosystem supporting video programmers and distributors. In this Webinar, you’ll learn how traditional players are meeting consumer expectations with better integration between on-screen navigation and cloud–based mobile apps such as Comcast’s Xfinity and Cox’s Trio. And experts will offer game changing strategies and tactics for Cloud Management and Next Gen Navigation technologies from vendors including Penthera Partners and ActiveVideo. Learn how this dynamic landscape affects the power balance between content owners and distributors—and how leveraging this changing world can help you retain and grow your customers and viewers.

In this comprehensive Webinar, you’ll learn how to:
  • Capitalize on evolving on-screen navigation technology from vendors like Penthera Partners, ActiveVideo and Cisco.
  • Tap into new revenue-generating and deal-making ideas emerging from these new partnerships.
  • Harness the kind of search and discovery techniques that consumers have embraced in the online environment.
  • Increase engagement and revenue through mobile apps offered by major distributors.
  • Exploit the cloud’s efficiencies to drive new business, and retain viewers and customers.

  Bio Michael Willner
Vice Chairman and CEO, Penthera

Michael S. Willner spent his entire career in the cable television industry.  He co-founded Insight Communications in 1985 and served as its CEO, a director and vice chairman of the board until the company was sold to Time Warner Cable in February, 2012.

Michael began his career in 1974 as the program director and news reporter for a small suburban New York cable system after graduating from the Boston University College of Communications. Soon after, he shifted his focus to general management and eventually became the chief operating officer of Vision Cable Communications, a cable company owned by a division of Newhouse Newspapers.

After starting Insight Communications, Michael also became very active in industry affairs and has been one of cable's most active and effective ambassadors on Capitol Hill, testifying regularly before Congress on industry issues and pending legislation. He has served two consecutive terms as chairman of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA), the cable industry's trade lobby, served on its executive committee for many years and chaired its political action committee (CablePAC) from 2000 until 2012.  Michael also served as chairman of the board of the Cable Center from 2007 through 2011, on the executive committee of CableLabs, and on the board of directors of C-SPAN, and the Walter Kaitz Foundation.

Michael was a recipient of the NCTA's 2004 Vanguard Award for Distinguished Leadership and a 2005 inductee into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Cable Hall of Fame in 2008.

  Bio Cliff Mercer
Ph. D. - SVP, Engineering – ActiveVideo Networks

An engineer and technologist with over 17 years of experience in the software field, Cliff leads ActiveVideo's product development and engineering activities. His extensive knowledge of cable industry technologies, components and systems, as well as strong technical background in high-performance, highly scalable distributed systems, make him an essential member of ActiveVideo's management team.

Bringing superior leadership and management talents to the company's executive group, Cliff joined ActiveVideo in April 2010 from his position as CTO of TAG Networks. In that role, Cliff established technology direction for the company and managed its engineering team, overseeing the development and deployment of interactive television technology and applications. Cliff is credited with driving the design and development of TAG's software systems, which leverage existing video-on-demand infrastructures.

Prior to joining TAG Networks, Cliff was Vice President of Engineering at Kasenna, a leading provider of next-generation platforms for video content and service delivery. In that role, Cliff was charged with technology advancement and product development across three different product lines including broadcast video service and interactive TV products, video streaming products and video network management products. At Kasenna, Cliff was also responsible for bringing Kasenna's video on demand technology and products into the cable market, while driving integration projects and managing partner relationships. In the years before joining Kasenna, Cliff worked for Liberate Technologies, an interactive TV platform vendor. During his tenure with the company, Cliff contributed to the product development as a software engineer and later contributed to the sales effort in technical account management, working directly with key Liberate customers.

Cliff received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University in 1997. He received his M.S. degree in Computer Science and his B.S. in Applied Mathematics/Computer Science (with University Honors) also from Carnegie Mellon University.

How does the Webinar work?

The live audio is delivered to your location over the telephone or your computer speakers. The Power-Point presentations are presented over the Internet and are available to print out before the program. This is like a talk-radio program with visuals on the Web. You and your team will be able to have a live Q&A with all the speakers.

You need Real Player or Windows Media Player installed on your computer. If you do not have either, please follow the instructions below to download and install them. Or if you prefer, a phone for the audio and an Internet connection to let you watch the slides and other information on the Web will suffice. No other downloads or special hardware - a dial-up connection will work fine.

  • One (1) set of materials (you may make copies for all of the persons you invited to listen to the program);
  • One (1) toll-free connection to the seminar (if you select the audio connection.), and
  • One (1) Internet connection to the seminar.

Use speakers on your computer or speakerphone on your telephone and invite your entire staff to attend for one low price of $339.00 USD per site.

What equipment do I need?

For the audio connection:

  • A computer with Real Player or Windows Media Player installed. When you log into the Virtual Seminar, your computer will be taken through a brief configuration check and will let you know if you're missing any software.
  • If you do not have Real or Windows, a touch-tone telephone will work also. It works best to use a speakerphone so that others can listen too.

For the Internet connection:

  • PC: 166Mhz Pentium-based PC or better
  • Operating system: Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, XP
  • Browser: For optimal viewing experience, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. However, any version of IE 4.0 or higher will work. For Netscape, only versions 4.x are supported at this time.
  • Internet connection: 28.8 or faster connection
  • Display set at 1024 x 768 or 800 x 600
  • Mac users are encouraged to use Firefox 2.0 (or later) with Real Player to view the webcast. You can also test your system using the system test button in menu on the left hand side.
