Mignon’s Watching—Rule to Sunset, But Commish to Keep Tabs on Cable
Late Monday, FCC commissioners voted 5-0 to sunset the viewability rules requiring cable ops to provide must-carry stations’ analog and digital signals. The rules will now sunset December 12. Democrat FCC commish Mignon Clyburn expressed concerns about the availability of low-cost converter boxes and consumers’ understanding of the change. Her plan is to keep a close watch on how cable operators behave.
