A Guide to MSO TV Everywhere Apps
By Kaylee Hultgren

With Pac-12 now underway and some MVPDs not offering the games at all (ehem, we mean you, DirecTV), it got us to thinking. What do you do when a game’s on TV and someone in your family plans to monopolize it all night? Can you make them watch on an iPad? Or better yet, banish them from the house with said iPad? Well, if you’re a Time Warner Cable customer, you can do that—with the help of a TV Everywhere Pac-12 app and authentication. But not all MSOs have this feature. Indeed, “whenever and wherever you want” isn’t quite there yet.

There are lots of questions surrounding the concept of “TV Everywhere.” So we set out to answer a few—and, as it happens, unearth about a million more questions in the process. What devices will work? And what other live TV can you watch at home or out of the home? Below is an attempt to answer at least of few of those queries.

We asked MSOs to weigh in, and the responses varied widely. For the most part, the interface the customer deals with when accessing TV Everywhere (i.e. actually out of the home) comes from individual networks’ apps or websites. And whether channels are available depends on the customer’s subscription and also whether your local system carries the channel. (That’s a whole other can of worms.) So here is a list of TVE apps offered by various networks after you authenticate with your provider. If we missed any, let us know!

Thanks for the comprehensive list. As a consumer I am grateful for the progress that TV everywhere is making. But it strikes me as being far too limited and complicated. I hope that everyone considers the friction the current process imposes and continues to streamline the process.

I\'ve been an avid Slingbox user since they were released. At this point I still benefit from it\'s every channel on every platform design.
