CableFAXIES Awards—Annual Report: Liberty Global for Liberty Global’s Summary Annual Report

Dr John Malone’s Liberty Global has money to spend on a snappy annual report, but dollars don’t always translate into a well-thought-out, well-produced piece of work. In this case, they did. The 2007 annual report for Liberty, which operates broadband communications networks in 15 countries, makes plain on the cover what the company is all about. Under cover copy, which says "simply for everyone," are three simple icons accompanying the words "Video," "Voice" and "Internet." Below each of those icons is an age-appropriate, joyfully leaping person. And the trio is multicultural. Inside, bright colors and professionally produced photographs of active people play off the large-font text and data, which is given plenty of white space. The overall format, developed with Watermark of Englewood, Colo., makes the information easily accessible for investors and shareholders as well as for media outlets, policy makers and consumers. The message is clear: Liberty Global offers communications services suitable for anyone, anywhere.

Fast Fact:

  • Liberty Global’s Annual Report was made available to shareholders, more than 20K employees globally and to global media and industry contacts.

Honorable Mention:

The Cable Center for Cable Center Annual Report: The Cable Center, working with a nonprofit’s budget, produced a report that takes pains to show its donors that their money is going directly to cable-oriented education and to programs that preserve cable’s legacy. In keeping with that theme, the 2007 report cost 70% less to produce than the 2006 edition.
