Managing field operations and service delivery strategies across four states helps Hegar glimpse what customers need today and will expect in the future. And he sees remote medical diagnostics and screenings as key bandwidth drivers. “This practice will increase the number of Internet-connected, medical monitoring devices used in the home,” he says. “These devices, coupled with video-based medical examinations and diagnostics, will require more bandwidth from a highly reliable ISP. Our industry is well positioned to be the market leader in providing these services.”

Who has been your strongest mentor, and why?

Throughout the course of my career, I’ve been fortunate to work with numerous, talented leaders and mentors who invested time and energy in helping to develop me as a leader. All stressed the need for me to add value to an organization by driving results, having personal accountability, being innovative and building a strong team (top to bottom). These are the “rules of thumb” I strive to adhere to on a daily basis.

What qualities do you look for when making a new hire?

The most successful candidates that I’ve hired demonstrate professional growth potential beyond the role they’re currently being considered for. This growth potential is measured by the following qualities: intellectual capacity, innovative problem solving abilities, strong communications skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated track record for delivering results.

Name one emerging trend in cable we should all have our eyes on.

An emerging trend that will drive demand for higher bandwidth capabilities from our industry is Remote Medical Diagnostics and Screening. Healthcare providers and insurers are looking for more cost effective ways to deliver healthcare services.

Remote Medical Diagnostics & Screening allows physicians and other healthcare providers to triage, diagnose, monitor and conduct follow-up discussions with patients in their home. This practice will increase the number of Internet-connected, medical monitoring devices used in the home. These devices, coupled with video-based medical examinations and diagnostics, will require more bandwidth from a highly reliable Internet service provider (ISP). Our industry is well positioned to be the market leader in providing these services.
