Oct Sunset—Volume Discounts, Exclusivity Highlight Program Access Comments

Cable is hoping 2012 will be the year that the FCC finally lets program access exclusivity rules sunset. Expiring in October, the rules prevent exclusive contracts involving satellite-delivered, cable affiliated programming. Meanwhile, some operators, including Cox, are hoping the FCC will use the review of program access to regulate volume discounts.

T-Mobile befriended Verizon as the two agreed to swap some AWS spectrum. T-Mobile also filed a letter at the FCC formally requesting withdrawal of its petition to deny the VZ/cable transaction.

BET Nets, Africa Channel, Nielsen, TV One, CAB, HuffPost BlackVoices and others have formed the Black Media & Marketing Consortium to raise awareness about the economic opportunity black consumers present.

ABC and syndicated content took home the most Daytime Emmy awards Sat night, winning 5 each. Food had the most wins among cable nets.
