CommScope reports a successful demo of the technical feasibility of Category 8 cabling for enterprise networks, one step closer to a viable 40GBASE-T system for data-center apps. The company verified a proof-of-concept solution for a 40 Gbps Ethernet channel by using prototype Category 8 RJ-45 connectors and copper twisted-pair cables — all designed by engineers in CommScope’s labs.

— U.K.-based mobile network manufacturer Sub 10 Systems unveiled an extension to its millimeter-wave, point-to-point wireless backhaul links. The new Liberator V100 includes the patent-pending “Snapback” feature that enables links to re-establish synchronization with the operator’s mobile network almost immediately, should the connection be lost for any reason. Snapback enhances industry-standard SyncE support and IEEE 1588 timing protocols, even in the worst of environments, and the V100 now is part of the portfolio offered by Alcatel-Lucent.
