— As of 10 a.m. today, Time Warner Cable opened its TWC TV app, allowing subs to access on-demand programming and a small amount of live streams outside their homes. Some 1,100 hours of programming from 26 networks now are available for iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone and iPod Touch access. TWC TV already allows users to watch more than 200 channels live inside the home.
— Digital optical provider Infinera says its DTN-X platform with ultra-long haul 500G FlexCoherent super-channel technology is being deployed in eight subsea networks across approximately 38,000 route kilometers of undersea fiber (see related story in today’s “Research & Analytics” section). Customers include Telefonica, MedNautilus, PIPE Networks, PACNET and KDDI.
— The latest version of Tekelec’s Diameter Signaling Router (DSR), available this quarter, introduces virtualization and adds new emergency Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services, scalability and routing functions to the mix. The additions reportedly allow service providers to reduce hardware and deployment costs through virtualization, to introduce emergency VoLTE among multiple DSRs in a large network and to increase core routing efficiency.
