lexington fiber

The Google is coming… The Google is coming… Google announced 18 new cities for its Google Fiber service, all located in 4 major metro areas: Nashville, Charlotte, Atlanta and Raleigh-Durham. The areas are all primarily served by either Comcast or Time Warner Cable. Last year, Google started working with 34 cities in 9 metro areas to explore bringing the service to their communities. It had originally planned to have a decision by the end of 2014, but pushed it to early this year. The other 5 metro areas—Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Antonio and San Jose—haven’t been eliminated. Google said it’s continuing to explore the idea and will have updates on these potential Fiber cities later this year. The new cities on Google Fiber’s launch list are Atlanta, Avondale Estates, Brookhaven, College Park, Decatur, East Point, Hapeville, Sandy Springs, and Smyrna in Georgia; Nashville-Davidson in Tennessee; and Charlotte, Carrboro, Cary, Chapel Hill, Durham, Garner, Morrisville, and Raleigh in North Carolina.
