Comcast Business scored a deal with the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to offer Internet service for the schools’ personalized learning curriculum and applications. As part of the contract, the MSO will increase average broadband speeds from 50 Mbps to 1 Gbps to the elementary schools and 5 Gbps to most of the middle and high schools. Moving forward, OUSD could potentially scale the network to provide schools with up to 10 Gbps in the future. The connection aims to enable teachers and students to access learning resources or streaming HD video from multiple locations. It also aims to enable the district to implement virtual desktops from a centrally located data center and provide more resources to individual schools, staff and students.
